ASO Glossary
BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) for ASO
BYOK ASO means an AI-powered ASO tool runs the AI workflows with the developer's own LLM API key, instead of bundling AI cost into the subscription. RespectASO Pro is BYOK across OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
What is BYOK ASO?
BYOK stands for "bring your own key". A BYOK ASO tool is one where the AI workflows are powered by an LLM API key the developer provides, rather than an AI subscription bundled into the ASO tool's price. The developer pays the LLM provider directly for what they actually use; the ASO tool charges only for the workflow software.
RespectASO Pro is BYOK. The developer supplies an OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or OpenRouter API key once in Pro settings. From then on, every Pro AI workflow run goes from the developer's machine straight to the LLM provider, signed with the developer's key. RespectASO never proxies the AI call and never sees the prompt or completion.
Why BYOK matters for ASO
| Property | BYOK | Bundled AI subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Cost control | Pay your provider for runs you trigger | Pay a fixed AI bundle regardless of usage |
| Model choice | You pick the model that fits the workload | Vendor picks the model |
| Provider choice | OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter — switch any time | Vendor picks the provider |
| Data path | Machine → LLM provider directly | Machine → vendor → LLM provider (vendor in the path) |
| Spend cap | Set in your provider dashboard | Set by the vendor's bundle limits |
How BYOK works in RespectASO Pro
- You buy a Pro license.
- You enter an API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or OpenRouter in Pro settings on your Mac. The key is stored locally with restrictive (600) file permissions.
- You trigger a Pro workflow (AI Niche Researcher, AI Competitor Analyzer, or ASO Score Simulator).
- The Mac app constructs the request locally, signed with your key, and sends it directly to your provider.
- The provider streams back the result to your machine. RespectASO is not in the network path.

Tradeoffs to know
- One-time setup. You need an API key with one of the supported providers. If you don't already have one, that's an extra step on first run.
- You own the spend cap. RespectASO Pro doesn't impose its own AI cost ceiling. Use your provider's spend caps and rate limits.
- Model choice is yours. Pick a budget model for casual work, a flagship for hard niches. Provider terms apply to your use of the model.
