How combinations help your keyword research

Most App Store keyword research starts with a few obvious nouns: what the app is about. The phrases users actually search are usually those nouns paired with a modifier — an adjective, an audience, a use-case word, a goal. This generator produces every pairing of roots and modifiers so you have a complete candidate set to validate.

The generator does not score the candidates. That's the job of RespectASO's multi-keyword search, which checks each candidate's popularity and difficulty against App Store/iTunes Search-derived data so you keep the strong terms and drop the weak ones.

A worked example

  • Roots: meditation, sleep, focus
  • Modifiers: app, tracker, daily, free
  • Combinations: meditation app, meditation tracker, daily meditation, free meditation, sleep app, sleep tracker, daily sleep, free sleep, focus app, focus tracker, daily focus, free focus — plus the reverse order if checked.

Paste the resulting list into the keyword field counter to see how much of your 100-character budget the survivors would use, then validate each one in RespectASO before locking them into your metadata.

Where this fits in an indie ASO workflow

  1. Brainstorm 3–6 root terms and 5–10 modifiers from your concept and competitors.
  2. Generate combinations with this tool.
  3. Validate the strongest candidates with multi-keyword search in RespectASO.
  4. Keep the survivors that have strong popularity and tractable difficulty.
  5. Pair them with the title, subtitle, and keyword field counters to fit them inside Apple's character budget.

FAQ

Should I put every combination in my keyword field?

No. The 100-character keyword field is small. Use the generator to surface candidates, then validate and shortlist the strongest 5–10 terms before filling the field. Most generated combinations won't make the cut, and that's fine.

Does this mirror RespectASO's scoring?

No. This tool generates phrase combinations only. RespectASO is where popularity and difficulty scoring happens.

What about ordering — "meditation app" vs. "app meditation"?

Word order matters in App Store search. Toggle "Include modifier-then-root order" to get both forms; in practice "noun then modifier" forms are usually the more natural search.
